Referrals For Horse Owners

Your Horse has been referred

If your horse is referred to our hospital, you can trust that they will be in safe hands with our compassionate, highly experienced team.

Once your horse’s case is referred, we will discuss the case with your usual vet and make a plan of investigation. You and your vet will be informed of the likely costs at the start of the process.

Second opinions

We are happy to provide a second opinion, where appropriate. If you are looking for a second opinion, then please contact your usual vet at the same time as contacting us.

For ethical reasons, and in the best interests of the horse, we will always contact the primary treating vet to discuss the case and obtain the clinical history.

There are times where our clients may wish to seek a second opinion, and we are more than happy to arrange for another of our vets to do this for you.

Similarly, should you wish for a second opinion or referral to another practice then please contact reception so that we may organise transfer of clinical history and relevant diagnostic images.

For referring vets

Refer a case to Three Counties Equine Hospital

As well as our first opinion ambulatory practice, we also offer a referral service for other veterinary surgeons. Good practice dictates that the horses should be referred by the veterinary surgeon treating the horse.

Horse owners who contact us directly will be asked to discuss referral with their own veterinary surgeon before an appointment can be made.

Once a case is referred, we will discuss the case and make a plan of investigation, including likely costs, with both the owner and the referring veterinary surgeon.
