Insurance Information

Horse Insurance offers financial protection for many unforeseen events related to owning a horse, for example if your horse is injured or becomes ill. If you are looking for insurance cover be careful to read what each insurance policy covers and the total cost of what they will pay for (most insurance companies cover up to £5,000 veterinary fees).

In the event of you making a claim:

Ring your insurance company and request a claim form – if you are a referral client please check with your insurance company how they work and what they require from your vet and the referral veterinary practice. Check with your insurance company what they will/will not cover and what they will/will not pay for (ie your excess or any keep fees if your horse is hospitalised).

Once you have received your claim form:

• Fill in your part of the claim form fully. Your insurance company will return forms if they are not filled in properly and may result in the claim being delayed.
• Send your completed form and relevant excess to ‘Insurance claims’ at Three Counties Equine Hospital (please note: excess varies with each insurance company so please check your policy details for the exact amount you have to pay)
• Your form will then be given to the relevant veterinary surgeon to fill in.
• Once your form has been filled in by the veterinary surgeon, it will then be either returned to yourself (if requested) or sent direct to the insurance company along with any relevant invoices that you have already received.
• It is your responsibility to forward any further relevant invoices onto your insurance company and your responsibility to make sure these invoices get paid to us. If your account becomes overdue, account reminder letters will be sent out - please forward any of these letters onto your insurance company so that they are aware that we are chasing you for this outstanding amount.
• If you receive any letter from your insurance company requesting further information from us then please forward copies of these letters to us so that we can answer any questions and move forward with the claim.
• If you are insured with E&L, Animal Friends, horseinsurance.co.uk or The Insurance Emporium we have a practice policy here at Three Counties Equine Hospital that all clients insured with these companies have to pay us direct under our normal terms of business and claim it back from their insurer.

Remember your policy is between yourself and your insurance company and not between your insurance company and Three Counties Equine Hospital LLP; therefore it is up to you to liaise with your insurance company regarding payment.
