Explanation of Qualifications
In order to practise as a veterinary surgeon in the United Kingdom, one must be a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS).
The qualifications listed below have been approved for inclusion for membership of the RCVS.
Veterinary Degrees
- BVSc – Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Liverpool / Bristol)
- BVetMed – Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (London)
- BVM&S – Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery (Edinburgh)
- BVMS – Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery (Glasgow)
- MVB – Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (Dublin)
Post-Graduate Qualifications
- CertEO – Certificate in Equine Orthopaedics
- CertEP – Certificate in Equine Practice
- CertVA – Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia
- PhD – Doctor of Philosophy
Support Staff Qualifications
- EVN – Equine Veterinary Nurse (RCVS)
- RVN – Registered Veterinary Nurse
- NVQ A1 – National Vocational Qualification (Assessor)
- HNC – Higher National Certificate
