Laboratory Facilities

Three Counties' laboratory facilitiesOur fully-equipped diagnostic laboratory is also certified by the Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) to test for the venereal disease Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM), which is a major cause of subfertility and abortion in the breeding industry.

On-site laboratory facilities allow same day processing of samples and prompt availability of results so that treatment is unhampered by unnecessary delay.

Haematology and Biochemistry

Blood samples may be analysed to aid in performance assessment (fitness profile) or to investigate ill health (full profile).

Bacteriology

Both aerobic and anaerobic culture may be performed from possible sites of infection, such as the nasopharyngeal region in possible Strangles cases, poorly-healing wounds and the cervico-endometrium of in-season mares. This allows the most effective antibiotic to be selected for each patient.

Parasitology / Fungal Assay

Faecal worm egg count (dung sample) can be carried out as part of your horse’s health programme.

Fungal assay allows for the confirmation of Ringworm in certain skin cases.
